1: The image shows the different perspectives of the girl as the mirror reveals her conflicting personalities. She looks innocent on the outside but inside she has been so traumatised by her sister’s death and the events surrounding that that she portrays an inner evil. This is a wide shot with both characters on either side of the camera shot.
2: This image is from Orphan (2009) which shows us the little girl looking upset while sitting on a swing. She looks innocent at this point but is wearing black which connotes evil. In our trailer we are going to have the little girl sitting on a swing at some point to show her child-like behaviour while she is still wearing the black garments from the funeral. The white of the snow connotes purity which will contrast with the connotations of her black clothes, leading us to doubt whether we can trust her.
3: The Oculus (2013) poster uses the reflection of the mirror as her split personalities. It also relates to our trailer as the mirror allows you to see things differently to other people which is what the girl would have but she wouldn't have to use a mirror as she just sees things. This is a close-up which would be used to show the girl’s sinister expression in the most shocking way.
4: The Conjuring (2013) poster shows a creepy doll which has turned its head around to face the camera. The girl holding it doesn't show her face which gives a sense of mystery while the doll itself looks distorted. The girl in our trailer will have an eerie looking doll with her that she carries, which will be her lifeless companion throughout her journey. The background is also gritty which helps make the audience feel uneasy.
5: There is a high angle on the boy in black who
will be like the little girl as she will be wearing black for her sister’s
funeral. The high expressionist angle connotes a lack of power, but things will
soon change when she runs away from home and sets out on her path of
revenge. The scene of the funeral will
be set in the graveyard so gravestones will be shown.
6: This scene from Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (2010)
shows Sally lying in bed with a slightly canted angle on her. This creates an
uneasiness which will make the audience anticipate that something is going to
happen. It also shows a girl about the same age as the girl in our trailer. She
looks upset and scared which is how our girl will make other people feel.
7: This scene from Let Me In (2010) is an over the
shoulder shot of the main character. Part of her face is in the light and the
rest in the dark which connotes evil even though the rest of the image makes
her look innocent. This is a chiaroscuro effect of half-light/half-dark. The
other character is blurred out to emphasise the main characters importance in
this scene. This is similar to the main girl in our trailer as she is evil but
will look innocent on the outside.
8: This shows two images of the same girl from I
Spit on Your Grave (2010) who is the killer in the film. This shows female power
and dominance over the men that she kills. She looks savage in these scenes
which is what the girl will look like when found in the woods. The close-up on
the right is bright and shows her clearly in the woods. The one on the left has
dimmer lighting which makes the scene seem eerier, again using
chiaroscuro/half-light/half-dark.
