This research indicates that females prefer psychological horror films compared with males however a higher percentage of males prefer gory horror films compared to females. Action films however have an even percentage. Psychological films are more likely to attract female audiences as they focus on jump scares rather than gory scenes. This means that females can enjoy the effect of being scared without being freaked out by what they are watching. Males however prefer gory films as they are fast paced meaning that the audience are on the edge of their seat throughout the film. The majority of males find psychological films too slow, boring and predictable, but it is this predictable nature that attracts females to this genre as they can prepare themselves for the scare. This doesn't mean that women do not enjoy horror films as much as men, as shown by action films being equal, it just means that everyone has a specific style they prefer.
